2006 Klamath County Needs Assessment
Every five years the United Way of the Klamath Basin works in partnership with many diverse public and private organizations to statistically survey the top 25 health and social service needs of our area. Professor Richard Pohl of the Oregon Institute of Technology and chairman of the Psychology department has served as the consultant on the project.
In addition to a random telephone survey of about 400 local citizens, a written questionnaire is distributed to an additional 350 community leaders and agency service providers. It is the mission of the needs assessment to examine the most pressing health and social service needs of our area and to make recommendations or community solutions that will reduce the level of these top community problems.
The most current needs assessment study was published in July of 2006 and a limited number of copies are still available at no charge to Klamath County residents by contacting the United Way office at 882-5558, or they can be down loaded at the link located at the bottom of this page. Consistantly the top social problems identified in the past 20 years in Klamath County remain to be drugs, alcohol abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence/physical abuse.
In addition to the surveys that measure attitudes and opinions of the general public and our community front line service providers, we include in the written report a demographic profile of the social, economic, housing, and community issues. Please contact Leroy Cabral at United Way for more information. The following individuals represented the 2006 Needs Assessment planning team. Thank you.
